The sculptor and stuccoer Otokar Walter Sr., whose decorative relief work can be observed mainly on public and private buildings in Plzeň, is one of the lesser-known artists of the late Historicism and Secession periods.
He carried out the sculptural ornamentation of houses built by the architect Rudolf Stech in Plzeň from 1892 to 1904. Together with the sculptor Antonín Popp and other artists he participated in the relief decoration of the interiors of Měšťanská Beseda and the City Theatre and Museum in Plzeň, all of which were built before work started on Smetana House in Litomyšl where both sculptors worked around 1904. Otokar Walter Sr. worked on the Secession ornamentation decorating the facade of Smetana House, which primarily features female mascarons and vegetal stucco-work.
His son Otokar Walter Jr. also became a sculptor.
