From the 1950s up to 2003, the Teacher Training College used the Piarist College on the Chateau Hill for the accommodation of its students. Later on, it also accommodated students in the rural environment of Černá hora, in a panel-built boarding house which was revitalized and extended at the start of the 3rd millennium. Of the two design projects submitted, the one by the Architektonická kancelář Burian – Křivinka design studio was chosen due to the high standard of its architectonic solution and for the pleasant environment it provided for students housed there after school.
The new annexe, with its L-shaped floor plan, faces out onto the town, and together with the original panel-built boarding house, with which it is connected via a narrow, first-floor link, separates the grounds into two sections. The first one is the public section, with vehicular access from the town, parking space and entry into the building itself. The second, more intimate section designated for free-time activities, faces towards the gardens of nearby houses and includes a garden, fireplace, sports ground and a patio linking up to the glazed ground-floor area of the canteen.
From the direction of the access road, the glazed, northern facade blurs the border between the exterior and interior environment, and thus, passersby can observe activities within the building whilst those inside can feel part of the town itself. The only features interrupting the glazed facade are the load-bearing structure and the high, narrow windows set in steel frames.
The original 1984 building has been renovated and currently provides accommodation in 32 three-bed and 3 two-bed rooms. Moreover, it contains amenities for guardians, technical facilities, as well as space for table tennis and table football.
The new boarding house provides accommodation for a further 120 students in two-bed rooms which feature balconies on the second and third floors. The first floor contains an expansive canteen for 120 diners and has been designed as a multi-purpose space which, with the help of a sliding partition, can be separated from the serving area and can be thus used together with the large clubroom as a social centre for the school. In addition, the building also holds a fitness centre, cinema and a special, fully-equipped music room.
The whole complex is enriched with students' artwork and works of art – paintings by Eva Mautnerová in the interiors and a bronze sculpture by Arnold Bartůnek in the outside atrium.
