The villa of Jiřina and Jaromír Brokeš, constructed between 1999 and 2000 according to a design project by the Brno architect Martin Rudiš can be found in the peaceful, eastern suburb of Zahradí. It is one of the first private buildings of high architectonic quality in “Post-November” Litomyšl which moreover, captured the imagination of the professional public. It has been praised not only for its composition and balanced proportions but also for the materials used in its construction, for the landscaping work and for its interior space.
The building's positioning and rectangular floor plan was dictated by the distinctive, elongated shape of the building plot. The architect partially set the three-storey building into the terrain which, together with the landscaping, helped create an intimate corner, in spite of the building being in the close proximity to surrounding houses. The section above ground, clad in un-rendered engineering brick, is in the shape of a regular prism, intersected by a loggia and broken up by openings of various sizes with windows. Thanks to the material used and its sharp edges, the building, according to some theorists, is reminiscent of work by Dutch and English architects.
The central theme of the layout is the entry hall with a fireplace and gallery, with, from one side, an adjoining living room, and from the other side, a kitchen and dining room. The space facing towards the garden is framed with a continuous, generously glazed surface and French windows, enabling direct access to the outdoor terrace which runs the full length of the facade towards the garden, thus, widening this living space even more. The architect has incorporated the technical facilities, garage and pool into the basement which is accessible from the garden via a sunken “patio”. The first floor contains two rooms with bathrooms and a small kitchen.
