The building cooperative for the construction of workers' houses in Litomyšl which was founded in 1907, built dozens of detached, semi-detached and terraced houses in the suburbs of the town (especially towards Nedošín and Benátky) to designs by local builders. Thanks to advantageous conditions set by Litomyšl town council and the builders themselves, cheap housing was available to the poorest inhabitants.
Typical examples of this type of construction from before the First World War are the terraced houses along Trstěnická Street, designed and built by well-known builder, Antonín Beba, in 1911. The building, containing six sections, is of a practical but imaginative design. In an attempt to achieve a compact effect, Beba designed two end sections and two middle ones with slightly raised polygonal gables which, together with the decorated entrances of the remaining two sections, harmonized with the facade and were the dominant features. The windows are also noteworthy with their varying sizes and shapes, relying on slim vertical forms.
The interior layout of the homes was restricted to fulfilling the simplest needs – the basement contained cellars and a laundry; in the rear of the raised ground floor there was a small kitchen, and at the front one room; in the attic there was a chamber, the rest served as storage.
Most of the homes have undergone wide-ranging modifications in the past which have disrupted the compact design of the whole terrace. Only the section at No. 541 has retained its original look, with the original window layout and entrance porch preserved.
