In 2015, the Litomyšl company STORY DESIGN, with its premises located on the eastern boundary of the town, acquired a new addition to its existing administrative building built in the 1980s – a singular, irregular-crystal shaped annexe. This new building, architecturally enriching the drab periphery area of the town, provides space for the promotion of the company and its products, for the studio of the creative department of the company, and for part of the administrative department.
The designers at the CUBOID ARCHTEKTI design studio in Prague addressed the task with a clear vision: to achieve a strong visual effect through the simple principles of contrasting shapes, colours, lighting and shadows. The annexe was designed as a light, steel structure, clad in lightweight, dark-coloured industrial panels. The facade facing out onto the street is dominated by a two-storey display window with additional glazed areas around the entrance and steel-framed side windows. An integral component of the concept is the design of the interior carried out in white, exposing the structure of the building and its cladding.
The architectonic concept of the whole premises, designed by the studio as early as 2007, also included the construction of the horizontal mass of the building towards the interior courtyard of the premises in 2008, as well as the reconstruction of the street facade of the 1980s administrative building, finished in 2017. During this reconstruction, the original buildings were unified with white paint and the protruding sections of the first-floor facade were fitted with distinctive horizontal blinds.
