The first building in the new housing quarter U Nemocnice, whose urban planning was undertaken between 1994 and 1995 by the Brno architects Viktor and Martin Rudiš, was that of the A1 apartment block completed in 1997 according to designs by the aforementioned designers.
The unconventional architectonic concept of this longitudinal, four-storey building was subsequently typified and, generally, accepted within the sphere of apartment construction in the Czech Republic.
Characteristic features of the building include the extensive partitioning of its facade, segmented roofing, imaginative work with materials and a wide variety of window shapes (square and vertical and horizontal glazed strips), but above all, the hitherto unusual implementation of fenced front gardens taking their cue from Austrian and Swiss housing estates. The architects thus achieved a fitting scale corresponding to the size of the town and also providing a pleasant living environment.
The apartment block provides inexpensive housing consisting of 47 flats of varying size and layout (in total, fourteen varieties were implemented).
